NIH Adopts Common Forms for Biosketch and Current/Pending Support
NIH has announced the adoption of Common Forms for Biographical Sketch (Biosketch) and Current and Pending (Other) Support, effective May 25, 2025, as detailed in . These forms will be required for all applications and Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs).
Updates NIH's adoption of the Common Form for Biographical Sketch and a new Biographical Sketch Supplement originally scheduled for May 25, 2025 is postponed. Continue to use NIH-specific format pages until further notice.
Key Updates:
Common Forms Implementation:
- NIH will implement the Common Forms without changes to collection fields.
- NIH will continue to collect agency-specific data elements (Personal Statement, Contributions to Science, and Honors) separately through a new NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement.
General Information:
- Required Use of SciENcv: All Senior/Key Personnel must use SciENcv to complete Common Forms and produce digitally certified PDFs for application submissions.
- ORCID ID Requirement: Senior/Key Personnel must enter their ORCID ID into the Persistent Identifier (PID) section of the Common Forms and link their ORCID ID to their eRA Commons Personal Profile.
Biographical Sketch:
- NIH will no longer accept the NIH Biosketch format page.
- The Common Form for Biographical Sketch must be used.
- The NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement will be required for the “Personal Statement,” “Contributions to Science,” and “Honors” sections.
Current and Pending (Other) Support:
- NIH will no longer accept the NIH Other Support format page.
- The Common Form for Current and Pending (Other) Support must be used.
NIH Common Forms Timeline
If your intended application due date or RPPR submission is: | You must… |
On or before May 24, 2025, including:
| Continue using the current NIH Biosketch and Other Support format pages for applications, Just-in-Time (JIT), and RPPRs. |
On or after May 25, 2025, including:
| Use the Common Forms (i.e., Biographical Sketch, Current and Pending (Other) Support) and NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement along with the updated instructions for applications, JIT and RPPRs. |
Failure to use the required forms or format pages may result in NIH withdrawing your application from consideration.

Getting Started with SciENcv
To get started with SciENcv, follow these steps to create an account and begin using the platform:
- Visit the SciENcv Website: Go to the SciENcv website.
- Sign In: Use your existing credentials from eRA Commons, NSF Research.gov, ORCID, or another supported login method.
- Create Your Account: If you don't have an account, follow the prompts to create one. You may need to link your ORCID ID to your profile.
- Set Up Your Profile: Once logged in, set up your profile by entering your professional information, such as education, appointments, and contributions to science.
- Create Documents: Use the templates provided to create your biographical sketch and current and pending (other) support documents.
- Download and Certify: After creating your documents, download the digitally certified PDFs for use in application submissions.
