Point-of-Care Ultrasound Workshop: An Introduction and Refresher Course for the Practicing Physician

The availability of point-of-care ultrasound has grown across all areas of medicine. Its use has been shown to improve efficiency and quality of care when integrated into daily practice.

SIU School of Medicine is offering a full day workshop aimed to provide practicing physicians and healthcare providers instruction on bedside ultrasound and how to integrate it into their practice. This includes didactics on sonographic principles and instrumentation, exposure to common applications of bedside ultrasound in the ED and hospital, and an introduction to ultrasound guided procedures. Hands on sessions with specific instruction on the e-FAST exam as well as ultrasound guided venous access are integrated to help familiarize participants with these techniques. This will include an ability to practice exams on several standardized patients and practice line placement on high fidelity phantoms.
