Agenda

Collectively, 79 learners will be receiving medical degrees, and one student will receive a master’s degree. It is the school’s largest class of graduating physicians ever. It includes our charter class of Lincoln Scholars, who have received all four years of their training in Carbondale.

Dr. John Mellinger is the commencement speaker. He is vice president of the American Board of Surgery and professor emeritus in SIU Medicine’s Department of Surgery.

Joey Maiocco, chair of the Class of 2024, will deliver remarks on behalf of the graduates.

Honored faculty include Dr. Careyana Brenham, Dr. Rik Constance and Dr. Jeremy Kulacz. The latter will receive the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. Humanitarian awards will also be presented to a faculty member and a graduate at the ceremony.

Three distinguished alumni will be recognized: Dr. Sam Gaines (’77), Dr. Alison LaFrence (’88) and Dr. Mohsin Khan (’16).
