SIU School of Medicine College-Level Outstanding Scholar Award FY21 Award Call for Nominations

Eligibility Criteria

All full time faculty members who have been employed by the School for at least five consecutive years are eligible for the Award. No faculty member will be eligible to receive the award more than once –see below for past recipients.

Criteria for Selection

Nominees should have established an exemplary program of research or scholarly activity documented by evidence such as publication in peer reviewed journals, a record of citation by the field of published work, a record of strong extramural funding, and invited external presentations.

Nomination Process

At minimum, the nomination document must include a nomination letter and a current curriculum vita.  Supporting letters from internal and external references are encouraged but are optional.

The nomination packet must be submitted in a compiled pdf format in the following order:

  • Cover page that includes the names and departments of the nominee and the nominator (see the attached downloadable document at the bottom of this page)
  • Nomination letter – providing a detailed explanation of the accomplishments of the nominee.
  • Curriculum vita of the nominee – must be current and include a complete professional employment history.  There is no limit to the length of this document.
  • Reference letters (if any) - can be requested by the nominator and should indicate how the individual knows of the nominee and summarizes his/her accomplishments.

Instructions

Nomination Deadline

Electronic submission of nomination packets is due in the ADR office by the April 7, 2021 at 4 PM.  In fairness to all, additional materials will not be accepted after this deadline.  Email the nomination document to kkatcher@siumed.edu

Selection Process

The Outstanding Scholar Selection Committee will be an ad hoc committee consisting of the three previous year’s School-level outstanding scholars and the chairs of the Research Policy Committee and the Faculty Council.  If any of these individuals declares a conflict, the Associate Dean for Research will identify another faculty member to fill the temporary vacancy.  Membership in the same department as a nominee will not be considered to constitute a conflict unless so declared by a committee member.  Each member of the committee then independently ranks the nominees based on the nomination letter, the supportive letters, and the professional history of the nominee.  The nominee with the highest overall rank will be recommended to the Dean as the award recipient.
