Urology Residency Overview

The Urology Residency Program at SIU School of Medicine complies with the current and upcoming curriculum as set forth by the Residency Review Committee in Urology and the ACGME. All five years of training are now incorporated into the urology residency. This five-year program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. At the completion of the residency program, residents are eligible for certification by the American Board of Urology. Urology Application Process

The SIU urology division participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) where application materials are transmitted from medical schools and the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to selected programs via the internet. Applicants are responsible for accessing the proper equipment to complete the application process and for submitting all required documents. Complete applicant files are reviewed by the Urology Residency Program Director and urology division chief to determine the 40 to 50 individuals who will be invited to interview with SIU Urology

Our vision is to develop an internationally renowned unit of excellence for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases that will improve the quality of life for the patients we treat at SIU. Consistent with its history and mission, there is a strong tradition of and opportunity for educational research within the Department of Surgery at SIU School of Medicine. All residents are required to undertake a Quality Improvement Project at the PGY1 and 2 level.
