    Why they chose SIU

I chose SIU Decatur Family Residency for the strong curriculum and the excellent faculty members who truly care about your learning. I love the fact that SIU Center for Family Medicine Decatur is designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center. I firmly believe that healthcare access should not be a luxury. As an FQHC, we provide essential healthcare access to the underserved population, regardless of someone's financial ability to pay. Giving back to my community has always been important to me. Although Decatur is a small town, it has a ton to offer. In addition to the economical cost of living in Decatur, there are plenty of things to do in your free time. You are within an hour's drive from Springfield, Bloomington, and Champaign. You can explore Central Illinois with your family and friends on the weekends. Furthermore, Decatur provides accessibility to larger metropolitan cities such as St. Louis and Chicago. Being close to my hometown is awesome because I can visit family and friends frequently.
