Drs. Adlimoghaddam and Zimmerman honored among Springfield Business Journal’s Forty Under 40

Published Date:

The Springfield Business Journal celebrates 40 young professionals under 40 in our local community each year. As part of the 2024 class, SIU Medicine’s Dr. Clare Zimmerman and Dr. Aida Adlimoghaddam have been honored for their outstanding contributions.

Aida Adlimoghaddam, PhD, joined SIU Medicine as an assistant professor at the Smith Alzheimer's Center in 2023. Previously, she served St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre in Winnipeg, Canada as a senior research associate and clinical scientist. Her passion for Alzheimer's research ignited during her undergraduate studies in biological sciences and was deeply influenced by her personal experience of her grandmother’s battle with the disease.

Dr. Adlimoghaddam's work is focused on developing innovative therapeutic approaches to prevent, slow, and potentially cure Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative disorders. Outside the lab, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Kyle, traveling, practicing yoga and engaging in outdoor activities like biking, hiking and camping.

Clare Zimmerman, MD, joined the Department of Pediatrics at SIU Medicine in 2021 as a pediatric hematologist/oncologist. Dr. Zimmerman completed her undergraduate studies at Illinois College before returning home for medical school at SIU School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago and a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Dr. Zimmerman’s journey into pediatric hematology and oncology began during her residency. Despite the challenges, she finds fulfillment in forming supportive relationships with families and developing treatment plans for young patients facing serious illnesses. Returning to Springfield with her husband, Brian, and their son, Leo, Dr. Zimmerman is passionate about contributing to her hometown’s medical community. As the chair of the Institutional Review Board at SIU Medicine, she is committed to advancing cutting-edge research in Springfield. Dr. Zimmerman is also involved in various community activities, including mentoring SIU pediatric residents and medical students and participating in events like the Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon and Relay for Life Springfield.
