Trainee Research Symposia showcases next-gen lab leaders

Published Date:

Eighty-five trainee researchers shared findings from their most promising scientific and clinical investigations at the 33rd Annual Trainee Research Symposium on April 18 and 21 at SIU School of Medicine. The two-day hybrid symposium offered trainees in Springfield and Carbondale an opportunity to gain experience in making formal presentations of their research and clinical discoveries. Faculty mentors provided assistance for each project. Presenting trainees included graduate students (30), medical students (31), Residents and Fellows (24).

“This symposium illustrates the innovation and dedication of our graduate students, medical students, residents, fellows, and our faculty at the School of Medicine,” said Don Torry, PhD, professor and associate dean for research. “Two full days of presentations reflect the amazing breadth and depth of scholarly pursuits at the school. The trainees are challenging current thinking about disease understanding, detection, treatment or prevention. Their energy and ideas epitomize our commitment of 'Championing Medicine through Research.'”

The mission of SIU School of Medicine is to optimize the health and health care for the people of central and southern Illinois.
