Research

Our Projects

The Department of Population Science and Policy is currently researching a variety of rural health disparities, with community based social innovation initiatives, investigator-initiated studies, as well as externally funded local, state and federal research projects, grants and contracts.  The Department is focused on three major research priorities –children’s health disparities; cancer health disparities; and other projects of interest, including opioid abuse, respiratory health and sexually transmitted infections. With all of our projects, the Department seeks to understand the region SIU SOM serves, designs and studies optimal approaches to the prevention and treatment of disease, models and disseminates these programs, and educates future health care providers on the importance of population health to their patients.
