Every mentor kept telling me how extraordinary the SIU program is regarding the attending physicians, the surgical diversity and volume, and the supportive educational environment Even though I couldn't visit in-person, all of those features were still apparent during interviews. In my short time here, it is clear every person at this institution wants to help you become an excellent physician and are willing to help you reach your goals. There are many dedicated resources for research, including attending conferences, and surgical skills development. Most importantly, our resident group is outstanding - I feel comfortable asking questions and know I will thrive in this learning environment. I am grateful this is the place for me to become a surgeon.
