Neurosurgery Spine Fellowship

OVERVIEW
The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Division of Neurosurgery is seeking candidates for the CAST-accredited Spine Fellowship.  Both enfolded and post-residency applicants are encouraged to apply. The fellowship curriculum offers intensive training in comprehensive spinal care. Fellows will expertly care for both children and adults with traumatic, deformity, congenital, degenerative, neoplastic, and infectious conditions. Advanced training in minimally invasive, endoscopic, robotic, and navigated techniques for spinal decompression and instrumentation will be provided.

PROGRAM DETAILS
Fellows will be expected to complete a 12-month clinical exposure to both the surgical and medical management of patients within the multidisciplinary setting provided. The fellow will assume increasing responsibility for operative performance, including teaching of residents and medical students in neurological surgery. Fellows will be actively incorporated into ongoing research and will be expected to lead individual research projects.  

ELIGIBILITY/QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must:

  1. Be eligible for an active, valid, unrestricted, and unqualified license to practice medicine in the state of Illinois.
  2. Be a graduate of an ACGME, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, or International residency program (post residency), or be a senior resident in an ACGME residency program (enfolded).
  3. Formally document the above-mentioned eligibility criteria.
  4. Complete and submit an application for Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Medial License.
  5. Prior to start date, IDFPR must grant licensure.
