Memorial Care to transition North Dirksen Urgent Care Clinic to SIU Medicine

Published Date:

SPRINGFIELD, IL

Memorial Health and SIU Medicine have announced plans to transition the urgent care clinic at Memorial Care on North Dirksen Parkway to a federally qualified health center (FQHC) administered by SIU Medicine this summer. Memorial will continue to operate a primary care clinic with lab and imaging services at that location.

An FQHC receives support from the federal government to provide integrated, accessible health care services for all patients, regardless of insurance status.

“Many patients who use urgent care services at our North Dirksen clinic would benefit from the services of an FQHC,” said Jay Roszhart, president of the Memorial Health Ambulatory Group. “SIU Medicine is a trusted partner for us, and we feel confident that they will help us provide high-quality care at this location for all patients.”

All providers and employees at the clinic have been offered the option to transfer employment to SIU Medicine or move to another Memorial Care location. The change only impacts urgent care services and will not affect patients or employees of the primary care clinic at the site. Current primary care patients can continue seeing their Memorial Care providers and access laboratory and imaging services.

Monday, June 3, 2024, will be the first day of operations for SIU Medicine at the clinic, which is located at 3220 Atlanta St. SIU Medicine currently operates an FQHC at Fourth and Carpenter streets in downtown Springfield, the SIU Center for Family Medicine.

“We’re excited for the opportunity to provide acute care services on the north side of Springfield,” said Janet Albers, MD, chair of Family and Community Medicine. “Working alongside Memorial is an ideal way for us to expand access to care for all local residents.”
