Coles County Students Preview Health Careers

Research indicates a potential physician shortage could occur in the U.S. within the next decade. A new program in Coles County aims to combat that trend by boosting interest in medical careers during high school. Students from Charleston, Mattoon and Oakland High Schools, as well as many homeschooled students, have met monthly since September to learn from health care professionals in the region. Borrow and renew

Borrowing SIU faculty, staff, students, and residents may borrow library materials. Items must be picked up by the account holder. Current identification or appointment cards must be presented at the Circulation Desk. Registered users have borrowing and renewing privileges in the Medical Library Catalog as well as the statewide I-Share catalog. Online borrowing is not available from the Medical Library catalog but renewing of materials is allowed. Renewing Renewals are permitted, if no other user has requested the materials. A recall may be placed on circulating materials at a user's request

CITI Protection of Human Subjects Training

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIUSOM) relies on the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative Program (CITI) to host SCRIHS Protection of Human Subjectstraining. Completing this curriculum is required before research personnel can engage in research activities that are overseen by SCRIHS. Also offered is Good Clinical Practice (GCP) curriculum. GCP training is not required by SCRIHS; however, study sponsors and funding agencies do require it. The CITI GCP training is accepted by most sponsors and funding agencies. Poster printing and article scanning The Library has a large format printer for printing posters for academic, scholarly, research and clinical work for affiliated users. Affiliated users from departments that have paid the poster printing fee may also request articles or book chapters to be scanned and sent as PDFs via email.
