Microbiology

The Microbiology Concentration offers both Master of Science (MS) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. The faculty that participate in this Concentration are in the Microbiology Program of the School of Biological Sciences within the College of Agricultural, Life and Physical Sciences on the Carbondale campus. The Concentration is research based and provides hands on experience in the areas of bacteriology, immunology, pathogenesis, microbial physiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, environmental microbiology, and symbioses.

The Anatomy & Neurobiology (A&N) Concentration is located on the SIU campus in Carbondale . Our faculty investigate a broad variety of research areas, offering opportunities for advanced training in human anatomy, histology, cell biology, neuroscience and neuroanatomy, and neurophysiology, including neurophysiology of behavior. A MS or PhD degree from the A&N Concentration prepares students for careers in education, academic or health industry research, or for further education in a health professional program.

Researchers in the MBBS Molecular & Integrative Physiology Concentration strive to improve understanding of the function of molecules, cells, tissues and organisms with an emphasis on their relation to human biology and medicine. MBBS Financial Assistance

The MBBS Graduate Program offers financial assistance to graduate students through assistantships that include a stipend and a tuition waiver. Research assistantships are the most common, but some Concentrations offer Teaching assistantships. SIU also awards Fellowships on a competitive basis. Financial assistance depends on availability, the student’s qualifications and their academic status. MBBS Application and Admissions

The minimum requirement for admission to the MBBS Graduate Program is an undergraduate degree in a biological, chemical or physical science, For thesis MS and PhD applicants a cumulative GPA of 2.7 during the BA/BS degree and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in any graduate coursework is required.
