Hand surgery research grant awarded to plastic surgery, orthopedic divisions

The Division of Orthopedic Surgery and Institute for Plastic Surgery have been awarded the J. Leonard Goldner Pioneer Research Award for their grant proposal: “LGR+ Stem Cells Augment Osteogenesis on Bone Defect Scaffolds.” The grant was a collaborative effort by Austin Beason, MD (Orthopedic Surgery, PGY-3), Carrie Harrison and Michelle Randle (both from the Plastic Surgery Research Laboratory), and Jacob Franke (third-year medical student). Clinical curriculum

Operating time Hand fellows are given the opportunity to join any hand or upper extremity case on the plastic surgery schedule. This is a fluid operating schedule that allows fellows to see any and all cases that would be beneficial for learning and technical practice. The SIU Plastic Surgery Division of Plastic Surgery covers two hospitals, Memorial Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital, both of which are Level I Trauma Centers. Working at two Level I Trauma Centers allows our fellows to gain experience in traumatic hand and upper extremity injuries and microsurgical techniques as related to

The Medical Educator Track at SIU SOM Department of Psychiatry is designed for residents who are planning or considering a career in academic psychiatry, or who just love to teach! It provides future psychiatric leaders in education with the opportunity to develop the skills they need to excel as teachers and as educational administrators, scholars, mentors and leaders. Each MET Resident is paired with a seasoned Developmental Mentor to shepherd them through scholarly projects, help them forge an identity as a medical educator, begin to assemble a dossier, and to role model a successful career
