SIU Medicine welcomes Class of 2023 with White Coat Ceremony

CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS – Seventy-six medical students from the Class of 2023 have begun their academic medical training at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale. The students participated in a White Coat Ceremony on Friday, August 16, in Shryock Auditorium. (Editor’s note: See list below for a list of students from your hometown.) Responsible Conduct of Research Class

Course Director: Donald S. Torry, Ph.D. 2023 Class meetings: dates/times to be determined. The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) is offered every other year at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Dr. Donald Torry, Associate Dean for Research, serves as the course director. All of the topics covered in this course are included in PHS guidelines as required training for some types of NIH-sponsored research. Family physicians in seven Illinois communities are hosting students from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine through August 30. The students are participating in the school’s Family Medicine Preceptorship Program. The experience provides an opportunity for students to use their medical knowledge in an office setting under the supervision of an experienced physician. The students choose from more than 160 family practice physicians in Illinois for their preceptorship experience. They will graduate from medical school in May 2021, then pursue advanced training in a specific area of

Department of Surgery Annual Teaching Awards 2019

The SIU School of Medicine Department of Surgery Annual Teaching Awards were presented on August 8, 2019. The awards are held to recognize the entire Department of Surgery faculty and are from General Surgery, Urology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Neurosurgery. Award recipients are chosen based upon the evaluations submitted by the residents about the faculty and are based on the numbers but more importantly, on the comments made by the residents.
