CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS – Seventy-six medical students from the Class of 2023 have begun their academic medical training at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale. The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) is offered every other year at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Dr. Donald Torry, Associate Dean for Research, serves as the course director. All of the topics covered in this course are included in PHS guidelines as required training for some types of NIH-sponsored research. Family physicians in seven Illinois communities are hosting students from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine through August 30. The students are participating in the school’s Family Medicine Preceptorship Program. The SIU School of Medicine Department of Surgery Annual Teaching Awards were presented on August 8, 2019. The awards are held to recognize the entire Department of Surgery faculty and are from General Surgery, Urology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Neurosurgery.
