A community health fair featuring free screenings for Staunton area residents will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, at the Community Memorial Medical Clinic, 325 N. Caldwell in Staunton. Simmons Cancer Institute (SCI) at SIU Medicine in Springfield, in partnership with Community Hospital of Staunton, will provide the free screenings for skin cancer and prostate cancer. Senior medical students in the graduating Class of 2017 at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine received results from the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) on Friday, March 17, at the same time other U.S. medical students learned their matches to postgraduate training programs. Sixty-two SIU seniors have secured residency positions. Eleven students (18%) will begin residency training in internal medicine.
