Decatur
The Decatur Program, established in 1978, is a 15 resident unopposed program affiliated with Decatur Memorial Hospital which has a total of 350 beds. The program is located on the Decatur Memorial campus and functions as a Model Ambulatory Practice (MAP), a collaborative administrative agreement between Decatur Memorial Hospital and SIU School of Medicine. Decatur also serves as a training site for the Physician Assistant Training Program.
Decatur Residency Program
Carbondale
Established in 1973, Carbondale's 18 resident program is located on Memorial Hospital of Carbondale's campus, its 150 bed affiliated hospital. The program emphasizes preparation for community practice, surgical assistance and ambulatory health care. In addition to the Family Practice Center's designation as a Rural Health Clinic, Carbondale has two satellite Rural Health Clinics in Benton and West Frankfort, Illinois. In addition to medical students and residents, the program serves as a primary training site for the our Physician Assistant Training Program.
Carbondale Residency Program
Quincy
Established in 1979, this 18 resident, unopposed program emphasizes private practice experience with strong training in rural medicine, emergency medicine, sports medicine and OCC medicine. This program is affiliated with Blessing Hospital (340 beds) which serves as the primary care institution for Quincy and as a secondary referral center for the surrounding area. In conjunction with Blessing Hospital, the Quincy Program and its faculty have established a state-of-the-art ambulatory rural practice clinic in Golden, Illinois.
Quincy Residency Program
Springfield
The Springfield Family Medicine Residency is a university-based, 24-resident program that has educated over 250 family physicians since it was accredited in 1972. The learning environment includes two established teaching hospitals, a 28,835 square foot outpatient facility, and a network of medical school and community clinical practices. The residency has thirteen physician faculty, six of whom practice obstetrics, five non-physician faculty, a nurse practitioner, two nurse midwives, a social worker and a doctor of pharmacy -- all with dedication to teaching residents the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. The program also offers the following primary care areas of concentration for residents with special interests in Sports Medicine, Women's Health with or without Advanced OB, Geriatrics, ER/Urgent Care and an Academic Track. Additional optional experiences include a local community health center, several rural health clinics and clinics operated in conjunction with local public health departments. The program is also dually accredited for osteopathic interns and residents.
