The Southern Illinois Trauma Center is the first Level 1 trauma center in the region, serving 18 counties throughout central and southern Illinois.

Welcome to the Southern Illinois Trauma Center at SIU Medicine. We are the first Level 1 trauma center in the region, allowing us to provide complex urgent and emergency care for the residents of 18 area counties.

We’ve partnered with Springfield Memorial Hospital and local emergency medical services to provide the expert and efficient care you or your loved ones deserve during your most vulnerable times of need. Our medical providers are highly skilled and trained in the diagnosis and emergency treatment of a variety of acute illnesses and injuries.

Dr. Chris McDowell has been named the new Executive Associate Dean of SIU School of Medicine. He is an alumnus of the school (Class of 2005), chair of Emergency Medicine, an associate professor and the medical director for the Memorial Learning Center.
