SIU School of Medicine alumnus, others elected to Illinois State Medical Society leadership

CHICAGO – A number of physicians connected to Southern Illinois University School of Medicine were elected to leadership positions in the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) during its recent annual meeting.

Oliver-RobertRobert Oliver, MD, was elected Chair of the ISMS Board of Trustees. Dr. Oliver is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He serves on the medical staff of Silver Cross Hospital. He works with Premier Suburban Medical Group in the south suburbs.
    
Active with ISMS since 1991 when he joined as a medical student, Dr. Oliver has served in dozens of council and committee roles as he ascended in leadership. He has served on multiple boards, including at the county medical society level and other organizations and medical groups.

Dr. Oliver earned his medical degree from the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where he also completed his combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He attended the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana for his undergraduate degree.

Dr. Oliver’s term as Chair of the ISMS Board of Trustees will run through April 2026.

Sapetti-LarryLarry Sapetti, MD, was elected Region 4 Trustee of the ISMS during the annual meeting. Region 4 represents physicians in southwestern Illinois, including Sangamon County west to the Mississippi River and to the tip of the southernmost part of the state. 

Dr. Sapetti received his medical degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine – Peoria and completed his residency at Union Hospital, Rural Training Designation in Terre Haute, Indiana. He is board-certified in Family Medicine and currently practices at the Springfield Clinic.

An ISMS member for 27 years, Dr. Sapetti has also been highly involved with the Springfield Clinic leadership previously serving as part of their board of directors for many years as well as a past member of the executive committee. He has also been an adjunct assistant professor at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine since 2016.

Dr. Sapetti’s most recently served as an ISMS at-large trustee. His term as ISMS Region 4 Trustee will run through April 2027.

Nicolosi-FrankFrank Nicolosi, MD, JD, was re-elected Vice-Speaker of the ISMS.

Dr. Nicolosi received his medical degree from the University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy and his juris doctor from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He completed his Family Medicine residency at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

Dr. Nicolosi is board-certified in Family Medicine and Urgent Care Medicine. He currently works in urgent care and is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine – Rockford. 

An ISMS member for 37 years, Dr. Nicolosi has served as chair of the Medical Legal Counsel (2012-2016), member of the Council on Education and Health Workforce (2022-present), and chair of the Rules and Order of Business Committee for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 ISMS Annual Meetings. 

Dr. Nicolosi also had the honor of being appointed by the Governor of Illinois to serve on the Illinois State Medical Disciplinary Board from 2015-18. Previous activities include serving as president of the Winnebago County Medical Society (2012-14) where he also was on the board of directors from 2007-18. He also served on the board of directors of the American Board of Urgent Care Medicine from 2006-15.

Dr. Nicolosi’s term as ISMS Vice-Speaker will run through April 2025.
