Traditions Return: Division of Orthopedic Surgery hosts annual lecture

The Division of Orthopedic Surgery was delighted to host the 38th Annual E. Shannon Stauffer Visiting Professor Lectureship at an in-person gathering on June 24, 2022.

This year’s visiting professor was Dr. Daniel Oakes, Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California and the Director of the USC Joint Replacement Program. This event also hosted the 3rd Annual SIU Orthopedic Research Symposium. Dr. Austin Beason (PGY5) was recognized as 1st Place for his podium presentation “Trends in the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Match from 2014 to 2021.” Dr. Anthony Milto (PGY1) was recognized as 1st Place for his poster “Differences in hospital length of stay and total hospital charge by income level in patients hospitalized for hip fractures.”

Additionally, Dr. Youssef El Bitar, Assistant Professor of Surgery, was presented with the 2nd Annual “Faculty Investigator Award” in recognition of his commitment to excellence in research.
