Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division

The SIU Division of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is dedicated to improving the quality of EMS education and pre-hospital care throughout central and southern Illinois. We strongly believe that EMS practitioners play a critical role in the healthcare system, and we are committed to providing them with the knowledge and skills they need to deliver the highest quality of care to their patients. Our team of EMS physicians work collaboratively to develop and implement innovative educational programs, research initiatives, and clinical guidelines to enhance the care delivered to patients in the pre-hospital setting.

In addition to the usual roles as EMS Medical Directors, division faculty are involved in a range of unique activities that showcase their diverse skills and expertise including provision of mass gathering/event medicine at the Illinois State Fair, participation in Tactical EMS and providing medical support to law enforcement officers during high-risk operations, administrative oversight of the State EMS System, response to disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural or man-made disasters as part of FEMA DMAT and US&R teams, and so much more.

Our vision at SIU EMS is to be the premier academic division of EMS in the region, recognized for our excellence in education, research, and service. We strive to promote a culture of excellence and collaboration, and we are dedicated to serving our community by improving the health and well-being of the patients we serve.

The division chief of EMS is Tyler Fulks, MD.
