Tenure track faculty position – Cancer Research

SIU School of Medicine, Springfield, IL, invites applications for a tenure track faculty position to join a supportive and interactive research environment within the Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU (SCI). We seek a candidate capable of establishing innovative discovery and translational research in solid tumor biology, cancer immunology and/or immunotherapy. Candidates with demonstrated expertise in upper GI, pancreatic, and/or biliary carcinomas will be of particular interest to complement a growing clinical emphasis for a robust upper GI-related cancer treatment center at the SCI. SCI currently hosts active cancer biology research programs including breast, ovarian, prostate, melanoma, colon and renal cancers, among others.  SCI research occupies new and renovated laboratory space and is supported by Core Research facilities and a tissue bank.

We seek an experienced scientist demonstrating strong commitments to research and teaching, collaborative potential, and an ability to bring novel expertise to the SCI.  Appointments are State-supported with competitive salary, startup package and modern laboratory facilities.  Successful applicant will be expected to establish and maintain an independent, extramurally funded research program and will contribute to both medical and graduate student education.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.  Appointment at Associate or above levels will require current and sustained extramural research funding.  Eligible candidates must possess PhD and/or MD degrees, and 3+ years of postdoctoral research training with a strong publication record.

The SCI is a state-supported cancer center with an excellent record of extramural research funding.  Academic appointment will reside in the Department of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology (MMICB). Appointments in MMICB enables access to the integrated Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biochemistry Graduate Program in conjunction with the SIU campus in Carbondale.
