Medical Students Working with Local Physicians

Family physicians in nine Illinois communities are hosting students from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine August 28 – September 22. The students are participating in the school’s Family Medicine Preceptorship Program. SIU Center for Family Medicine-Decatur Earns Federal Recognition

Decatur-area patients will have access to more health care services, thanks to a federal grant that allows the Southern Illinois University Center for Family Medicine-Decatur to become a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) under the scope of service of the Center for Family Medicine in Springfield. As football season kicks off, CTE worries persist

A study published in the July issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association again showed troubling evidence of the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) among NFL players. The data indicated that CTE was found in 117 of 119 brains of those who played professional football. (Like Alzheimer’s disease, CTE is diagnosed posthumously.) Dr. James Daniels , professor of family medicine at SIU Center for Family Medicine in Quincy and director its sports medicine fellowship, says, “There is a lot of debate in medicine right now on how to measure CTE and if the

The Fertility and IVF Center at Southern Illinois University Medicine will hold its seventh annual birthday party from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, at Erin’s Pavilion in Southwind Park, 4965 S. Second St. in Springfield. “This event is our way of celebrating the parents and children we’ve helped,” said Ricardo Loret de Mola, MD. “It’s an extremely rewarding experience to see these children and know that our team played a role in helping their families.” In 2016, the center hosted more than 200 parents and children, ranging from newborns to seven year olds.
