13th Annual Butterfly Release

Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU’s release of butterflies is a beautiful way to honor the living and celebrate the memory of loved ones by sponsoring a butterfly in their names. The ceremony will include the public reading of the names of those being honored and/or remembered, music, inspirational readings, and a magnificent release of butterflies. Seating is limited and masks are required. The emergence of a butterfly is a sign of renewal of life and its flight symbolizes freedom and happiness. New aid available to transform health care in underserved communities

In March, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed into law a plan to transform health care in underserved communities, offering support to improve access and collaborations with the goal of greater equity. The State will invest $150 million using federal matching funds to fill health care gaps and focus on underlying health conditions in areas high on the CDC's social vulnerability index scale. These communities have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and are in areas served by critical access and safety-net hospitals, including rural parts of the state.
