Cancer survivors: You're invited to become a 2019 Face of Hope

Each October, Simmons Cancer Institute (SCI) at SIU, features a presentation called “Faces of Hope" at the Annual Denim & Diamonds Gala, the institute's primary fundraising event. Photos of approximately 30 cancer survivors flash across the screen to music to raise funds for cancer research, patient programs, and the growing needs of our patient population. We celebrate every survivor is celebrated regardless of where treatment was received. SIU School of Medicine elects new alumni board members

Two new board members have been named to the Alumni Society Board of Governors at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The new board members are Stephen Raben, MD, a family physician and a member of the Class of 1990; and Mark Schmelzel, MD, a retired vascular and general surgeon and a member of the Class of 1979. Their three-year terms began in May. Raben is board certified in family medicine, geriatrics, hospice and palliative medicine and is medical director of Family Hospice in Belleville.
