When is camp held? Camp COCO 2019 will be held Sunday, June 23, to Friday, June 28. Where is Camp COCO held, and how do I get there? Camp COCO is held at the Timber Pointe Outdoor Center (TPOC) located on Lake Bloomington in Hudson, Illinois. Type in your starting location to find the best route for you using Google Maps . Who can attend Camp COCO? Children who have been diagnosed with cancer or a blood disorder and are between the ages 6-17 are invited to attend Camp COCO. Nothing can compensate for the anguish that childhood cancer inflicts, but Camp COCO is an organization that tries to make a difference. Since founded by the SIU Department of Pediatrics in 1986, Camp COCO has helped thousands of children and their parents recapture hope, enthusiasm, self confidence and love of life in a medically safe environment created especially for them at camp. A free skin cancer screening for Springfield area residents is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, to raise awareness for and highlight Skin Cancer Awareness Month. The Regional Cancer Partnership of Illinois (RCPIL) is sponsoring the event at Simmons Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, 315 W. Carpenter St., Springfield. Local dermatologists will perform the skin checks, including moles. Appointments are open to individuals not under the care of a dermatologist. To make an appointment, please call 217-545-7493 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Limited
