New SIU Clinic to Open at Taylorville Memorial Hospital

TAYLORVILLE, IL - Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is opening a Center for Family Medicine clinic inside Taylorville Memorial Hospital. The new SIU primary care clinic will open on Jan. 15 and will initially be located in the Specialty Clinic space, near the nonprofit hospital’s Laboratory and Rehab Services departments. Dr. Janet Albers, physician assistant Christine Albers and nurse practitioner Airn Etherton will see patients three half-days per week. Research Opportunities

The Department of Population Science and Policy is collaborating with education faculty and staff to provide students with up-close, experiential learning activities. In addition to offering resource sessions centered on our three divisions, the education team is also able to introduce students to a vast number of projects in which they can assist. Research topics include children’s health and development, cancer disparities with an emphasis on rural areas, sexually transmitted infections, health systems policy, and other projects of interest. Susan Thompson Hingle, MD, has been selected as the associate dean for the Center for Human and Organizational Potential (cHOP) at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Dr. Ricardo Loret de Mola and Dr. Kanako Hayashi were honored with the award for the best poster at the 4 th European Congress on Endometriosis in Vienna, Austria. The poster entitled “Suppression of inflammatory responses in endometrial lesions by reducing the secretion of cytokines and chemokines” is the result of a collaborative effort between Dr. Loret de Mola a clinical expert in the field of reproductive endocrinology with a special interest in endometriosis and Dr. Hayashi, a discovery science researcher at the SIU Carbondale campus who has years of experience studying female
