Prospective MD/MPH Students

Students The MD/MPH program is a five year program that begins in Carbondale. Students who have been accepted to medical school at SIUSM, but have not yet started medical school, are eligible to apply for the program. Students accepted to the program spend their first year completing MPH coursework in Carbondale. In the second year, students start medical school. In the fifth year (MS4), the students take MPH specific electives and complete a practicum. Welcome to the Southern Illinois Trauma Center

Trauma centers treat the most serious and complex combinations of injuries, those from which a person may be at risk of loss of life or limb. The SITC follows international guidelines for a Level I trauma center as established by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. Thus, the SITC provides resources for all areas of trauma care, from prevention, through emergency department and hospital treatment, and into rehabilitation. The Department of Population Science and Policy (PSP) is collaborating with SIU SOM faculty and students to redesign the population health curriculum with innovative and extensive materials to consider and serve America’s most vulnerable populations, especially those residing in rural areas.
